Description

The small town of Marten is situated at just 12 km away from the city of Rousse on the East by the Danube river.

It is within the Rousse municipality and recognized as a town since August 2006, located at the just 75 km from the Romanian capital – Bucharest.

The entire area in the Rousse municipality bears the charismatic image of the small towns in the Danube Valley. From the quiet fishing hamlets situated along the Danube, to the picturesque villages in the "Roussenski Lom" National Park, we have a breathtaking scenery of beautiful sunsets and houses on hills overlooking Middle ages castles, as if taken straight from a fairy tale.

The town has been established as early as I century AD, as part of the Roman fortification system on the river. It continued it’s existence throughout the First and Second Bulgarian Kingdoms, till present day. Marten has very well developed infrastructure. An interesting sightseeing is what is considered the only meteor crater in Bulgaria, called ‘The Pit”. The annual fest is celebrated on 6th March – St. George’s Day.

Being a former suburb of a big city, Marten has established itself as a villa zone and a place away from the noise
